About the Day of Breast Enlargement Surgery
Going into the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery's Miami or Fort Lauderdale operating rooms is not a normal occurrence for most people, so it's understandable that many people may feel a natural anxiety due to not knowing what to anticipate. The more you know what to expect, the more you can relax. Here we will share with you what a typical "surgery day" is like.
Getting Ready for Breast Implants in Miami & Fort Lauderdale
You will have followed the pre-op instructions, provided to you before your surgery. You can read more about preparing for breast augmentation in Miami on our page devoted to the topic. So, you will have stopped eating the night before your surgery and you will not eat anything the morning of your surgery. You will shower, but not wear any lotions, creams, oils, perfumes, make-up, or jewelry. You will need to wear a shirt, top or dress that can be buttoned or zipped up and that does not require going over your head.
When You Arrive
You need to arrive at the surgery center with your prescribed medications a minimum of 45 minutes before your appointment. You may be asked to fill out additional paperwork, if needed. Before surgery you will change into a surgical gown and foot covers. You will also meet with your surgeon and anesthesiologist for basic surgical planning, which can include drawing on your skin as needed. This is also an opportunity for any last-minute questions you may have.
Entering Surgery
Your surgery will take place at our state-of-the-art operating suites at either our Miami or Fort Lauderdale cosmetic surgery centers. Once you enter the operating room, the staff, including a MD anesthesiologist, a trained operating room technician, a registered nurse, and your surgeon, will do everything possible to make you feel secure and relaxed. The operating table is padded and very comfortable, which can help to relax you as well. In addition, you will be connected to monitoring equipment and be surrounded by expert medical professionals trained to help you in case any complications arise. A nurse or anesthesiologist will start an intravenous drip into your arm to administer all needed medicines, including those that will relax you.
Your surgery will last about two hours. When it is completed and your dressings are in place you will be moved to the Recovery Room.
The Recovery Room
Your stay in the Recovery Room will last one to two hours where you will be under the constant care of nurses specifically trained to work in recovery. You will continue to be connected to monitoring equipment. Most people take between 30 to 60 minutes to wake up from surgery, yet they still may not remember much about their time in recovery.
When You Get Home
It is not safe for anyone to drive after having surgery performed, so you will need to have someone drive you home after your breast enlargement in Miami. We recommend that you have a friend or loved one stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery. You should be prepared to rest the remainder of the day and the following day. Taking it easy is an important party of recovery and healing. Give yourself the gift of rest and relaxation. You may be sore and tender after your surgery and will have medications to help relieve most of the discomfort.
Post-Operative Appointments
It is important that you make and keep all post-operative appointments. While surgery can change your body, resting and following your physician's instructions will help your body recover successfully. Recovery is as important as the surgery itself, so be sure to give yourself enough time to take it easy and heal.
